You will find a lot of work on this site that I have done for Paul and his company - Powerlyte. I had done some work in the past, adapting a template for his site to start. Then I helped him in establish an online store for his products, until eventually I was able to offer him a complete design from the ground up, wrapped around my own custom e-commerce Engine.
Paul presented me with elements he liked from a variety of sites to give me an idea of what he was going for. We also went back to colors stemming from his original logo, designed by a tattoo artist which is the Flaming Skull. That remains the only graphical element in his site that I didn’t create.
I had not only done web work for Paul, but other graphic art as well. I designed packaging, logos, ads, and even simple wallpapers. Some of those elements found their way into the site. For example, the background to the menu started out as a wall paper ala Louis Vuitton using Powerlyte Logos.
Paul wanted some flash elements so I designed the entire header in Flash. The difficulty was just coming up with something appealing that didn’t have a long intro, as the header would be reloaded with each page. As this was an online store that included other pages of the site, this also allowed for me to separate the two navigation bars thus increasing usability.
I carried the look and feel of he header over into the left hand menu but used a regular graphical menu. At the time I designed this site, I wasn’t as well versed in proper use of CSS and unordered list so looking back I would have done things differently but it certainly met it’s needs for functional as well as graphical appeal.
This site is run off of FONcommerce which is an Adobe Coldfusion store system built from the netready code base. A lot of the features and enhancements started off specifically to meet the needs of this site and just grew from there. More details of the store system can be found on foncommerce.com
The Products “Coming Soon” used the flash carousel which clicked to display details on the new products that were still in development. Originally this design was used on both Powerlyte.com and PowerlyteDirect.com ( the dealers only version). Currently, only the dealer’s site is live and required access to see beyond the front page so below are a few thumbnails of the content with prices hidden where needed.
